Health and Dental Insurance
We believe that our employees should be protected by health and dental insurance. Universal offers three different health plans, including a PPO, HMO, and a Catastrophic Plan through United Healthcare. United Healthcare is one of the top insurers in the country, serving more than 18 million customers through over 470,000 physicians and 4,500 hospitals across the United States.
Universal also offers a top dental plan through United Healthcare.

Cash-Payout Profit Sharing
What is Profit Sharing?  Universal Engineering Sciences appreciates the hard work of our employees and returns a large percentage of profits to our employees in cash. Universal bases Profit Sharing on branch and department profits, which are prominently posted at each office for all employees to see. This is not a company stock program or other, less straightforward incentive program. Universal presents a cash payout to eligible employees on a quarterly basis.

401K Plan and Company Match
Universal offers a 401K plan through Fidelity Investments.  Fidelity offers state-of-the-art service, technology, and top investment options. We are proud to offer this program to our employees. Universal automatically enrolls every employee in our 401k and matches 12 cents on the dollar (on up to five percent of base salary).  This contribution is in addition to our cash-payout profit sharing.

Paid Time Off
We believe that Paid Time Off (PTO) is important to our employees. Universal offers a generous PTO policy and rewards employees for length of service by increasing the amount of PTO offered incrementally.

Life Insurance/Accidental Death and Dismemberment
Universal would like to do everything we can to protect our employees and their families. All full-time employees of Universal become eligible for $40,000 in life insurance and Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance. Universal pays the entire cost of this benefit.

Disability Insurance
The prospect of becoming disabled and the accompanying loss of income threatens everyone’s financial well-being. All full-time employees of Universal become eligible for Long Term disability Insurance, which pays 60% of an employee’s base salary (after 90 days) for a set period should disability occur. Universal pays the entire cost of Long Term Disability Insurance. For many employees, Short Term disability is also at a slight cost (Universal picks up most of this cost) available in many cases, covering a disability period from two weeks through 90 days.

Cafeteria Plan
Many of the out-of-pocket expenses associated with our benefits are available through our Cafeteria Plan. A Cafeteria Plan allows an employee to pay for out-of pocket expenses using pre-tax dollars, thus reducing your taxable income.

Flexible Spending Accounts
Further tax savings is available through Medical and Childcare Flexible Spending Accounts. These accounts allow you to reduce your taxable income by deferring salary into reimbursement accounts for qualified medical and childcare expenses. Qualified medical expenses include co-pays and deductibles, prescriptions, vision care, eyeglasses and contacts, dental care, and many over-the-counter medicines.  

Cancer Plan
Critical Illnesses such as Heart Attack and Stroke are covered through this plan, paying a lump sum benefit upon diagnosis of a covered critical illness. The plan also pays up to $50 for wellness screenings such as cholesterol tests, glucose tests, and stress tests.

Accident Plan
Our Accident Plan provides additional protection for unexpected emergencies that can occur.  This plan provides benefits for an initial doctor’s office visit, emergency room treatment, or ambulance trip.  Additional payouts are given for common accidental injuries such as fractures, burns, and other injuries. Also covered are lodging, hospital care, transportation, and follow-up care.

Additional Life Insurance
On top of the $40,000 Company-Paid Life Insurance Benefit, Universal offers term life insurance for up to five times your annual salary ($500,000 max) for both employees and their dependents

Paid Holidays, Jury Duty Pay, and Funeral Leave
Universal provides seven paid holidays per year to all full-time employees including New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and the Day After Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.  Universal also provides Jury Duty Pay and up to three days of Funeral Leave.

Banked Disability Leave
In addition to providing company-paid Long-Term Disability and optional Short-Term Disability, Universal maintains a Disability Leave Bank for all full-time employees. Banked Disability leave may be used for an extended illness or hospitalization requiring a doctor’s care. Employees receive one day annually, and have the option of rolling over excess Paid Time Off into this bank.

Paid Certifications and Tuition Reimbursement
Universal believes in enhancing the skills and knowledge of our employees and will pay for those who wish to obtain job-related certifications provided the employee agrees to stay with the company for two years thereafter.

Tuition Reimbursement
Tuition reimbursement programs are available to advance our employees’ education providing up to $1,000 per year for college-level civil engineering coursework. 

Pre-Paid Legal Program
The Pre-Paid Legal program provides legal consultations, demand letters, and legal document review. All program members also receive free Will Preparation and updates. Other discounted legal services include assistance with motor vehicle traffic violations, trial defense, IRS audits, and other legal issues.

Ford Partner Recognition Vehicle Purchase Plan
UES offers our employees the opportunity to purchase or lease selected new cars and trucks from the Ford Motor Company family of brands (Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Volvo, Mazda, Land Rover, and Jaguar). Due to our relationship as a Ford “Partner” in our purchases of trucks and other vehicles for our fleet we have been given the opportunity for our employees to purchase or lease eligible vehicles at Ford’ “X-Plan” pricing. This pricing is lower than any “deal” you can get in the newspapers, “employee pricing”, inventory reduction sale, end of model year clearance, holiday sale, or other dealer gimmick.

Microsoft Home Use Program and the Employee (Software) Purchase Program
UES employees are eligible to participate in the Home Use Program which enables them to get a licensed copy of most Microsoft Office desktop applications to install and use on your home computer.

Office Depot Office Supplies Employee Discount Program
Office Depot, our office products supplier, offers UES employees the same discount the company receives on any of their products. UES employees may order supplies at a discount by phone from the Office Deport catalog, by fax or through their Internet website.

Smoking Cessation Program through the American Cancer Society
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention reports that more than 70% of smokers want to quit and make attempts every year, but most fail without help. According to the American Cancer Society, tobacco use remains the number one source of preventable mortality in the United States. To help our employees and their families, UES offers a Smoking Cessation program where they can call in to a “Quitline” staffed by professional counselors who will set up an individual plan to help employees and their family members quit the habit. This program is free to UES employees and their families.

Employee Connect Employee Assistance Program
There are times in our lives when we need a little help. No matter what the issue is, Employee Connect, our Employee Assistance Program, is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week with support, guidance and resources for UES employees and their immediate families. Employee Connect offers counseling on work/life services, parenting, childcare, eldercare, relationships, work, career, legal and financial. Employee Connect is available to all UES employees free of charge.
