In order to assure structural component conformance of larger structures, the State of Florida Building Construction Standards enacted Chapter 553, which defined a threshold building as:

"Any building which is greater than three stories or 50 feet in height, or which has an assembly occupancy classification that exceeds 5,000 square feet in area and an occupant capacity of greater than 500 persons."

Universal Engineering Sciences, Inc. (Universal) prides itself on being a valuable asset to the construction team.  When performing threshold inspections, our duties are to OBSERVE, REPORT and FACILITATE.

  • Observing consists of watching and monitoring the contractor's activities.
  • Reporting consists of documenting the activities through daily reports and test results.
  • Facilitating is where Universal can really make a difference. When a contractor is having difficulty with a construction issue, we are often the most able to provide assistance.  While careful not to direct the means and methods, we are able to suggest possible alternatives that the contractor may use to achieve the necessary results without impacting the schedule.
For over a decade Universal has maintained certified and licensed Special Inspectors to perform threshold services.
